We have the Google algorithm saying. yeah this content is great and then we have the Medium algo which is all MEH!

You can't be seen on Medium without being seen so you have to work hard to build a following to get a glimpse of some engagement. Another point is that ranking Google posts would do better on Google if Medium also showed them some love.
