Does Medium favor posts in publications over posts on profiles?
Where do you post your hard work on Medium?
Is it a dream to think that one day one of my posts will trend on Medium?
I am not super active but today is a day where I am pretty involved with the site and just viewing the homepage I can see that just about all of the trending posts are published within publications.
I don’t really want to post in other members' publications and jump through their hoops but it seems almost necessary on Medium.
But of course, once you decide to do so you first have to be accepted.
I have thought about this a lot and decided I would try to be the ringmaster and not one of the acts by creating my own publication, The Bloggers.
But even being the ringmaster has not improved my chances of gaining traction on the homepage.
My takeaways so far are:
1/ Followers matter — you need to build a following to get any kind of start
2/ Popular publications matter — they allow you to piggyback on their success and popularity if they allow you to post
