Creativity now goes hand in hand with the technical side of SEO. If you want to be seen then there is so much more than just writing good content. I think that is the real appeal with Medium:

1/ You can monetize

2/ You really only need to know the basics on how to lay out a post, adding headings and images and if you have blog this is second nature. All the SEO side etc is not really needed with Medium, but you do have an advantage if you know the basics and want to get your Medium posts seen outside of Medium.
